Dr. Puneet Dhar is Professor and Head of Surgical Gastroenterology at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, with more than three decades of experience in gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. His clinical expertise covers a wide range of complex gastrointestinal and abdominal conditions, with particular interest in GI surgical oncology, pancreatic and biliary surgery, liver transplantation and neuroendocrine tumours.
Dr. Dhar completed his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, followed by MS in General Surgery from Safdarjang Hospital and MCh in Gastrointestinal Surgery from G.B. Pant Hospital, Delhi. He further advanced his expertise through a Senior Clinical Fellowship in Transplant Surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, UK.
Before joining Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, in 2022, Dr. Dhar served as Professor and Head of Surgical Gastroenterology and Abdominal Solid Organ Transplant at AIIMS Rishikesh. He also spent more than two decades at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, where he served in senior academic and clinical positions in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery and GI surgical oncology.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Dhar has a strong academic and research background, with 90+ peer-reviewed publications covering gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery, surgical oncology and liver transplantation. He has also guided MCh, MS and DNB students in their academic and research work and has contributed to medical education through teaching, presentations and professional leadership.
He has a special interest in neuroendocrine tumours and has been actively involved in their management and academic development. His professional contributions have been recognised through several prestigious orations and distinctions, including the Prof. T. E. Udwadia Memorial Oration, Professor Raghavachari Oration and Dr Ramesh Nigam Memorial Oration.
Dr. Dhar continues to combine extensive surgical experience with academic leadership and evidence-based decision-making. His approach focuses on understanding each patient's condition carefully and developing an appropriate treatment strategy, particularly for complex gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and oncological conditions.
